What is Tracking?
Tracking is a feature add on that allows you to intercept your sms and voice urls and send them to this feature set, which then allows for advanced routing rules and logic built through the user interface.
Challenge
You use a number set for your voice messaging as well as outbound sms messages, but want to forward inbound sms messages to individual people outside of the Ytel system. Each phone number in the number set is mapped to an individual person.
Solution
Enable the Tracking feature and use email relay for numbers you want to use for personal communication, but track all communication through inbox for managers.
Enable the tracking feature on your account by clicking Add Feature and selecting Tracking

Enable each Number that you want to track.
When you hit enable tracking on a number it will move that number to a number set called Ytel tracking. If you don't want to use that number set, simply move your number back into the original number set. Make sure you copy the inbound sms url for tracking over to your existing number set.

Once a number is enabled to Tracking, navigate to the Active Tracking Numbers tab. Here you will see a list of all of your enabled numbers and a summary of routing actions on those numbers.

To allow them to communicate back and forth on the Ytel api number we will be using the email relay setting in Tracking.
Click into the number on the Active Tracking Numbers tab and a new window with routing options will appear.
There are sections on the routing page:
-
Analytics
-
Call Routing
-
SMS Routing

Analytics are use for reporting on SMS message. You can use this section to name the sources to match your managers or people who will be receiving/sending sms to track their usage.
When you scroll down you will see the SMS Routing section. Here we want to enable Email Relay.

Then we want to add a new route or select an existing one. This is going to be the email you want to forward texts to.

Once you hit save changes on your new tracking settings it is time to test it out. Send an inbound message to one of your numbers that is now pointed to your email. Then reply from your email to that sms message and see the response back to your mobile phone.
You can see all of this communication in your inbox as well, so it is open for manager to still oversee all text messages that happen on that number.
